Hello 2020

Hiya everyone and welcome to my blog!

So it’s been a while….. 5 months to be exact! There will be a post next week about where I’ve been and how my nurse training is going! But it’s officially 2020 and I can’t quite believe it! The past year seems to have completely flown over, there’s been laughter, tears and a lot of hard work. I’ve have a hard year but also achieved more than I ever thought I would! So today I thought it would be nice to do a little summary of my year and set my goals for the year ahead!

Summary of 2019

This year started with me moving away to university to start my adult nursing degree. This was a huge step for me as someone who can sometimes be quite shy! But I threw myself into it and have made some amazing friends this year. I’ve had some amazing experiences during my first year of nursing and have loved it so much. I can’t deny that it has been hard work and required a lot of juggling to keep on top of uni work, placement and to have some form of social life! During my three week summer holiday from uni, I spent a week on holiday with two of my best friends which was a amazing break from the grind!

September through till December was CRAZY! I really don’t know where the time went because I was just so busy. At the start of September, I moved into a house with my flat mates which has been amazing, so much better than student halls! I had an exam and an assignment to complete whilst being on placement for 12 weeks! I also completed my first year portfolio of essential evidence and competencies which meant that I passed first year with 85%! Then before I knew it, it was December. Now that Christmas is over (and I had the best time!) I’m thinking ahead to next year and what I’d like to achieve!

Goals for 2020

1. University – During my first year of university I wasn’t very organised at all and that needs to change this year! I’m planning on writing more things down, so I’ve decided to buy a diary to keep a note of everything. I’m also going to try and start assignments early instead of leaving them till the last minute like I usually do! I also want to try get out more as my social life has really suffered as a student nurse!

2. Blog – This year my blogging game was pretty rubbish. My terrible time management meant that I rarely left time for blogging and I really was gutted about it! I love blogging so much and I’ve really missed it these past few months. My aim is to post once a week on my blog and to be more active on my social media’s!

3. Health and fitness – I am feeling super positive for 2020 in terms of getting fit and sorting out my diet! I am going to get back into running by using the couch to 5k app and I am also planning to join the uni gym to go to classes with my housemates because I feel like I will be more committed if I go with other people! I am also going to try and eat more healthily to build my confidence!

4. Me – This year I am going to really try to put less pressure on myself and make sure to take more time out when I need it. 2020 is going to a year of self care and putting myself first!

  1. Fab goals! It took me until second year of university to really figure out how to organise all of my work – a planner is a great start! x

  2. These are fab goals! University can be a real challenge to keep on top of everything; I ended up deleting my blog at university and then I set it up again once I had graduated. Good luck with the rest of your degree; I hope 2020 is a good one for you!

These goals are great and really achievable too. It is so difficult to manage your time at uni, especially in third year. But if you make a start on your projects straight away, that takes some of the pressure off. I think your self-care point is really important too, this is something I’m going to prioritize in 2020.

  10. Lovely post Rachel! I think we followed each other at the same time, haha.
I hope you’re going well with all your goals. I know life in general has changed a lot since December and January but there’s always lots of good to be done. Some of my goals for this year are to get my L plates, which I recently did. Procrastinated that a little bit, but I’m hoping to now get driving hours in! I also need to start looking into TAFE courses for next year. Other than that, just to read more and get ahead with personal projects!
